From Mess to Success

I agonised over how I was going to vote on Same Sex Marriage (which lead a lot of people to wrongly assume I was voting against) but that process, which has been going on for some weeks and was particularly intense on Tuesday, ended with a decision to vote for the bill.

Same Sex Mess

I’m in an agony of indecision over same sex marriage. On the one hand I’m not illiberal or homophobic. On the other I am not particularly bothered about this, think civil partnership is enough, and have concerns about the legal repercussions.

Bovine Brits

The electoral mood is a mystery. It could easily be said it is apathy. Yet underneath the surface there’s a swirling mass of fears, grumbles, complaints and alienation which could easily turn sour. Or even UKIP.
People are fed up but haven’t yet focused on the government as the cause of our urgent discontents. Nor have they accepted that Labour is the alternative and the way of putting things right.
My guess is that the realisation will take another year. That means another dose of unemployment, cuts and national decline before the stolid British realise that Cameron and Osborne have not only failed but are doing deep damage to the society and the nation to protect the wealthy.
So in the meantime, we are left to fight for a better and fairer deal, especially for those hit hardest by the economic downturn, as they were left bereft by our piggy bank chancellor.
And fight we shall! I spent the last couple of days out and about helping out with the campaigns of the Labour councillors ahead of the local elections, due to take place today. Forget Boris and Ken, Grimsby is where it’s at.
