What Happened To Hope

Compared to the surge of enthusiasm and hope which brought Labour to power in 1964 or 1997, our present situation is depressing. Neck and neck in the polls where we should be streets ahead of a shambolic, nasty government. Our leader harassed and not as refreshing we`d hoped. Our Shadow Cabinet is largely unknown. We`re not striking winning chords. On some issues the public is ahead of us.

Olympic Mess

I’ve had my doubts about the organisation of the Olympic game staffing ever since two young friends told me what had happened to them.

One was keen to be a life guard at the swimming. She was told the job would be unpaid. She took the job anyway but most young people wouldn’t be able to afford this.

They other applied for a position but didn’t hear anything for months. This makes it impossible for young students who want to get work, a job in the hand is worth two with G4S and almost certainly better paid. Eventually someone rang up his referee and asked a few incomprehensible questions. He’d found himself another better paid job by then. Students need money these days.

We have found an organisation even more incompetent than the government!
