Apologies for the Blog break. Too much happening in this Fin de Blair frenzy. Main events;
• Tony hopelessly enmired in Iraq. His tar baby
• Claire is everyone’s hate object and should be protected as an endangered species
• Michael Howard getting overconfident and reverting to Thatcherism when he needs to be Macmillan
• Hutton hurt that his best white gloss is mistaken for distemper
• Butler dead in the water
• John Prescott so helpful to the Lib/Con coalition in North East Lincolnshire the OPDM may disaffiliate from the Labour party.
• North East Linc Tories cleverly using Liberals as a human shield to protect them from the consequences of the cuts in anything that helps people
• Just read Asquith saying in 1913 that six years as PM under “modern” pressures is too much for anyone. Quite right. After six years Prime Ministers are either mad or messed up. Is Carol Caplin Tony’s Venetia Stanley?
• Gordon’s achievements are in danger as overvaluation damages what’s left of British production, the balance of payments turns disastrous and a Bank of England which has learned nothing and forgotten everything tries to shore things up with ever higher interest rates. This points to Disasterville and low growth, and, therefore, higher taxes.
All very disorientating for New Labour, but mealy a reversion to real politics for geriatrics like me. |
