Election That Never Was Is Not PDF Print E-mail

The election`s off. The Tories who feared it and the media who advised against it are now yelling that Gordon`s frit. Balls.

Gordon should have called an earlier election – before the Conferences. He could never have expected to increase his majority. But he could have got a new five year mandate and a majority big enough to carry it through. Whatever the superficial shifts of the polls, electors would choose (and will in 2009) a serious strong leader dedicated to improving the lot of the people over a facile fliberty gibbet. There`s no doubt who they`ll want.

Gordon can`t be blamed for cancelling. He`s there to win not to do what the media want. He kept his election options open up to Saturday. That`s sensible.

It`s equally sensible to close the prospect if the polls look adverse. What`s to complain about him doing his job?

He didn`t take my advice to “Go Go Go” but he doesn`t always. However right I am. No complaints. I`m girding up my loins for Gordon. Election or not.

To carry on we must re-enthuse our base by doing more for the less well off, the workers, women and the unions.

Call off the confrontation with the public sector unions. Relax the strings strangling the Post Office. Stop the grinding “efficiency savings”. Get interest rates down.

Monday Back to the grindstone. My friends in marginals and those who were about to retire will be happy. The Tories will be *****-a-hoop. Even the other way round. The Lib Dems will be more sanctimonious than usual. Should be fun.
