We lost the rugby. But at least Sarkozy was forced to watch a totally Commonwealth contest.
Let`s think straight about the Constitutionless Constitution. Nobody really wants it except the Commission and the International Federation of Jobs for the Euro-Boys. The British Government doesn`t want it and Gordon regards it as a great nuisance.
But he`s not really interested and it`s troublesome and messy to oppose it. So accept it and then, because it`s not important and because he`s not prepared to spend any of his (increasingly limited) supply of political capital in fighting a referendum for it, he`ll push it through Parliament on his majority.
What`s to lose? A few months messing around in Parliament pretending to vote clause by clause on a Treaty we can`t alter. A lot of credibility for Gord`s Trust the people programme. A bit of his reputation for integrity.
And Bingo! We`re a subordinate part of the Euro-state, temporarily exempt from its full rigours by red lines which will prove as transient as the integrity of the rebate.
Better a long whimper than an immediate defeat. That`s the way they do it in the EU. Gordon conning as a system of government. |
