Memo to Jacqui     You`re forgetting a basic law of politics. DON`T FIGHT THE FUZZ.
You can`t win. They`re right.
(1)               The arbitration says give `em the money. It`s not right to be grudging about it.
(2)               They`ve got strong support.
(3)               They fight dirty. Expect to see lots of news reports about Cabinet Ministers cottaging, backbenchers buggering, Peers paedophiling and half the PLP on pot, drugs or drink drive offences.
(4)               I can`t afford a rash of parking, speeding and phone-while-driving tickets, so I`m staying home over Xmas unless you give in.

Chuck it, Smith. It`s not worth it for £30 piddling milliom.

Poor Gordon`s getting the worst of all worlds. Didn`t want to go to Lisbon to sign a Treaty he didn`t want but couldn`t reject and can`t put to the people because they`ll throw it out and then he`s faced with Sarkorzy setting up a team of Euro-Wise Men to recommend more federal advances after Gordon`s promised there won`t be any for ten years. That`s the EU for you – love it or leave it.  It`s impossible to do either.
