Speaking beneath the huge murals of French defeats, Pres Sarko gave us a dose of Blair-con-brio what the Pro-Europeans in the audience lapped up. Most lusting after Mme Sarko who looked bored stiff obviously contemplating a lifetime of this.
It was easy promises energetically delivered: reform the CAP (we’ll see), bring Britain into bed with Germany and France (uncomfortable), work together (uneasily).
Gordon nodded benignly, Denis MacShane orgasmed and the clever buggers didn’t wear earphones for the translation and were able to laugh at the jokes (both of them) in advance of the rest.
Pure Euro-guff. Thankfully Blair has inoculated us against that.

Housing and Regeneration Bill on Monday. I’ve put down amendments to ensure it does both but the Government seems unlikely to accept them. Which means with builders going bust, repossessions increasing and mortgages difficult to get, the housing drive on which so much depends won’t get anything.
Perhaps a weekend of prayer will change things.
