A letter every two days from Obama and last the great offer to tell us first who his Vice President is going to be if we send him our email or text number. Good way of getting mass numbers to keep sending messages to. Looks like he'll pick Joe Biden. I think he should pick a woman. But what does it matter. As lone holder said the job ain't worth a bucket of cold spit. Remember Spirew Agnew as Nixon's VP, "It's autumn and I've got to get back to Washington. The leaves need sweeping up."

Swim for Obama was a great success. Fifty people all allowed to make statements at the start, ten swimmers, Grandson Sykes led all the way round the pier. The local Democratic organiser announced, "I don't know what we're going to do but I know we're going to do it" (why can't we have that attitude in the Labour Party where we all know what's to be done and sulk because it isn't?) and a film on the Obama website.
That's our bit. It was wonderful for a Yorkshireman to find that you can even make a donation. You have to fill in a form to say you're a US citizen and registered voter before you can give any money. So I didn't. But Obama still wrote to thank me.

Oilman T Boone Pickens is spending $70 on an advertising campaign to get wind generators providing 20% of US electricity in 10 years, develop natural gas and solar and stop the $700 billion a year drain to the middle east to pay for oil. It seems to be working. The politicians are flocking to see him. Congressmen are supporting him. We need a British Pickens and a huge renewables building programme.

Looks like I might've been wrong in attacking Gerry Sutcliffe for betting the Poms would get more medals than Oz. We are now doing exactly that. Linda's sister in Sydney is hysterical. The Aussies are trying to change the basis of measurement to medals per capita which with a smaller population gives them the advantage. Me? I'll eat humble pie. I'm delighted that our spending on Olympic talent is apying off and hope it does better in 2012.
As for Garry. If you win lad I'll chunder in Bradford Beck.

Choose between McCain and Obama? My opinion later. But in the meantime if only British leaders could go through this long, testing evaluation before we chose them we'd have better leaders and a more involved electorate. Seventy days to go and it's fantastic. |
