Gordon’s honeymoon has been the shortest since Mrs T. The commentariat has tired of us so they`re taking it out on Gordon.
My lights are going out all over the media. Mathew Parris has turned Tory propagandist. Anatole Kaletski has turned optimist on the world economy but pessimist on us. Polly Toynbee has undergone an SDP revival and veered left. Peter Ridell has gone sanctimonious. John Rentoul writes as if he`s Blair`s revenge. Even Alan Watkins has an overdose of “I told you so”.
This is the turning of the tide. Totally disorientating. So all I can do is think for myself and tell Gordon. Forget the crap about winning the aspirational middle-class. They’ll vote for you as liberals and supporters of public spending and betterment.
Build the base on a platform of more power to the people. Win the women and the families. Dump Iraq, Afghanistan and the US onto the Tories. Soak the rich. Borrow and get interest rates down. Then go for it. |
