The City is now using its great lobbying power and getting enormous newspaper coverage, for the threat that companies will all rush to Dublin unless they get an even softer tax treatment.

It’s balls and can easily be dealt with by legislation requiring that all profits generated here will be taxed here.

But what a contrast with the plaints of the poor. Where was the campaign and the media shock horror when Gordon proposed to tax the worst off to make a tax concession to the better off by scrapping the 10p tax rate? Total silence except for Frank Field and a miserable number of Labour MPs who were ignored by the media. New Labour responds to decibels not social justice.
