Ireland`s killed the Lisbon Treaty. Mustn`t gloat. Wrong to gloat. Can`t gloat, as Willy Whitelaw said. But, boy, am I gloating.
Rejoice, as Mrs. T. would say. It makes Labour look silly for refusing a referendum here. But then it was silly.
It makes the EU look even dafter for trying to smuggle it in by the back door.
It kills the Lisbon Treaty stone dead.
It damages Tony Blair`s prospects of a real job.
But such sad things put aside, it`s marvellous.
The best thing to happen since the French and Dutch rejected the Constitution.
Who knows what they`ll do now. Ask the Irish to think again? Rewrite it? Give up the long campaign to fudge it through Parliament? Or just junk the whole thing? |
