I’m flooded with protests about the abolition of the 10p tax band. They’re right. We are taking from the poor to give to the richer. The compensation via tax credits isn’t and will be fiddly and will produce no gratitude.
Observe the contrast. The City and CBI lobbied heavily on capital gains tax and Non Doms. Government climbed down.
The poor don’t count. So it’ll be no change. The brightest and the best (les Milibands and Mr and Mrs Balls) are all trundled in to say, “it’s ok” and (tacitly) “we’re ok anyway”.
Balls to Balls. It’s un-Labour. It’s unfair. It’s daft. We should increase the allowances by, say £300 taking 3.3 million people out of tax and costing £2.5 billion which can easily be put on borrowing.
It’s not too late to do that Gordon. Why don’t you?
