Bonjours les bloggeurs du Paradis. New session (so HM told me on Tuesday) new blog, With apologies for the old one’s degeneration into incoherent musings on the future of mankind. Like a Blair speech.
We’re now on the run up to the election. on 05/05 /05, the Sun says. So it must be true. Which makes the Queen’s (election) speech worrying. It`s all about Crime, Terrorism, Yobs, Serious Gangsters (including Brian in Parliament Square who will be moved for causing brain damage to Pro-war MPs). Bush got re-elected by frightening people into ignoring the social issues. Black Blunkettry is going to do the same for us. With a smidgeon of kindness to animals, particularly terrorist foxes. Even, possibly, fishes if the Animulers can prove that they feel pain. In which case bang go angling and the working-class vote, commercial fishing, and John Prescott’s swims in the Deep.
Not an election platform on which any sane Labour bloke or blokette might care to stand. Particularly if the Blairite bits of revolutionizing public services by privatizing them are yet to come. In fact a perfectly dreadful rag-bag of rubbish calculated to terrify the electorate into supporting the government with no golden thread, or even a Labour philosophy running through it. Certainly nothing to create red water between us and the Tories.
What is New Labour about? Yobs, fly tipping, cost rating teenagers, Identity Cards, dumping on druggies and tough on Brian Haw (the Parliament Square campaigner since June 2001), tough on the causes of Brian. As well as animal liberationists anti vivisectionists, and anyone who wants to dock a dog`s tail (but not a lamb`s or a pig`s). What a rubbish bin of a platform.
Depuis la derniere blog.
1) Blair has lost contact with reality. Without Alistair he’s making mistakes, like the Milburn coup. He assumes that election victory is inevitable, doesn’t understand the growing hatred. You don’t use New Blair. New Blair uses you, and the ones who’ve been used all want revenge from Derry Irvine downwards. Rory Bremner seems consumed with hatred (when did you first lose faith? I asked him - May 3rd, 1997 he replied). The Tory media is totally hostile and party members who used to look up to him are ceasing to believe a word he says. Time to go, Tony. You’ve outlived your usefulness to the Party. You`re now building Balriism not Labourism. Your agenda not ours.
2) Prezza has flipped. I got an outrageous letter saying he proposed to ignore the Conference vote against him. He’s preaching a Thames Gateway expansion which will cost three times estimates, a Northern Way (not a sexual position) which is five years too late and under-funded even for that, and an ideological disposal for council housing which is wasting millions to give away billions. Still he was unable to defeat on the N E Referendum and his real failing is that he`s been badly used by Blair to defend the indefensible and do dirty jobs for which he never got the money or the powers. He`s done this with a dogged loyalty worthy of better causes.
3) Gordon has fallen silent. As well he might. The Bank is going to keep interest rates high so the pound can`t come down with the dollar, as it must. That and the rising euro will choke off our markets and damage the Euro-economy. The Bank of England has become House Price Regulator ruining manufacturing by interest rates double everyone else’s just to burst the house prize bubble on which the economy now depends. Are they trying to get us thrown out or is it that you give power to bankers and they’ll charge too much for money.
This is a presidential system (vote Labour Get Blair) going wrong. The president won’t listen, doesn’t consult, and is totally contemptuous of Cabinet and the Party and its priorities. Why else would we be going for super-casinos, 24/7 drinking, and playing Robin to Bush’s Batman. The Party Formerly Known as Labour is becoming a political drag artist dressing up in Tory clothes as the election approaches.
As for North East Lincolnshire, our Labour Leader, Chris Shaw, has called a press conference to announce that Labour is responsible for the financial mess. No qualifications, like bad advice from officers, inadequate support by government, the burden of problems left by unitary reorganisation, the need to take risks to maintain services. All our fault. So we should rally round Andrew De Freitas to clear up the mess.
It’s a formula for disaster and totally opposite to the fight back in Hull and Sheffield where Labour took on the Liberals root and branch and threw them out . We’ll approach them on our knees making no objection to any of their crazy schemes for closing libraries, lavatories, youth clubs, or advice services. But then the ODPM won`t make objection to any of this. Why should Labour locally? I believe in one Andrew, the De Freitas almighty. He tells me I shouldn`t use my Week in Westminster slot to denounce him. So someone must be reading it.
Blog on boys. only four happy months to go and then it`s into an April election campaign. Oh to be in Grimsby now that April`s there!! |
