Inflation at 3.1% isn`t serious and will soon go down, but the frenzied knicker-twisting it`s produced is the first test of the MPC. Put interest rates up and it becomes a Doomsday Machine killing the economy to cure it. A $2 pound is ruinous for exports but will go up with higher rates reducing inflation by putting people out of work. Just like the good old days.

Thank God for Little Liam standing between us and the huddled masses yearning to be Brits and live on social security in council housing. This week he told it like it is. The British fear being swamped. Not quite sure that`s the word he used, but that`s what he meant. Thanks for telling it like it is.

What is Tony doing? Is he part of the Euro conspiracy to concoct a new Constitution and smuggle it through without a vote as just another Treaty? Or is he trying, as he should, to emasculate it? And how can he agree it by the end of June if he steps down at the start? Over to you, Gordon.

No Miliband challenge. Cook and Reid left muttering but probably to no avail. Not a single Blairite is willing to lay down their lives, future and career to defend the legacy. So Gordon has absolutely no need to try the concrete boots Tony`s designed for him for size. Disassociate Gordon.
